1 in 5 women in the United States experienced a mental health condition in the past year.  The most common mental health conditions that women struggle with are anxiety and depression and though men also struggle anxiety and depression, the symptoms that women exhibit tend to be different.  In addition, there are some mental health disorders that are unique to women such as as perinatal depression, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and perimenopause-related depression. 

At Serendipity Womens, we explore all issues – medical, environmental, relational and physical – that may be impacting the emotional struggles that a woman is experiencing to assist her in finding a solution or learning how to cope in order to have a better quality of life.

Some symptoms of mental health disorders in women include:

  • Persistent sadness or feelings of hopelessness
  • Misuse of alcohol and/or drugs
  • Dramatic changes in eating or sleeping habits
  • Appetite and/or weight changes
  • Decreased energy or fatigue
  • Excessive fear or worry
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not there
  • Extremely high and low moods
  • Aches, headaches, or digestive problems without a clear cause
  • Irritability
  • Social withdrawal
  • Suicidal thoughts
